Sabres lose double-overtime heartbreaker

Box Score (Fond du Lac, WI) - Dominican University won an exciting game at Smith Fields on Saturday afternoon as they scored with just 3:04 to play in double-overtime to win 2-1. With the victory, the Stars moved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the Northern Athletics Confernce. Marian fell to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the NAC.

Marian, seeking their first victory over Dominican in school history, was very close to victory. Marian scored at the 55:50 mark as Jade Koeune (Winneconne, WI) scored off a perfectly-placed pass from Kim Kriese (Stevens Point, WI).

The Stars made quite a few runs late in the contest, and finally found the back of the net with just 1:29 left to play as Kelly Gerwitz scored.

Neither team threatened much in the first overtime, but Dominican had a great shot at the 106:39 mark as Rosa Andreucetti stepped up to take a penalty kick. Marian's Tiffany Erdman (Wausau, WI) made a diving save to keep the game alive. On the ensuing corner kick, it was Gerwitz again who was in the right place as she was able to send one in to give the Stars the victory.

The Stars out-shot the Sabres 24-4 in the contest, but Marian's defense was superb throughout. Erdman recorded 11 saves in the contest.

Marian is back in action again on Tuesday, as they will host Edgewood College.
