(Sheboygan, WI) - The Sabres fell behind by 18 points in the second half on Wednesday, got back to even, but then didn't have enough left as they fell 67-61 at Lakeland College. After tying the game with just 5:37 left to play, the Sabres scored just one point the rest of the way and are now 9-7 overall and 4-7 in the Northern Athletics Conference.
Bench points and turnovers were two key stats in this one. The Muskies bench out-scored Marian's 33-6. The Muskies also forced 27 Marian turnovers and turned them into 23 points.
The Muskies led for over 18 minutes in the first half and took a 35-25 lead into the locker room. Ten points was Lakeland's largest lead in the period.
In the second, the Muskies took control early and grabbed a 53-35 lead with 12:19 to play. The Sabres then went on a huge 25-7 run over the next 6:42 to tie the game at 60.
Brooke Haen's (Oakfield, WI) four 3-pointers were huge in the Marian run.
The Sabres didn't have enough left however, as they scored just the one point down the stretch.
Alexis Becker (North Fond du Lac, WI) and
Elizabeth Zutz (Valders, WI) both had double-doubles in the game for Marian. Becker finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Zutz added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Brooke Haen (Oakfield, WI) finished with 17 points.
