RIVER FOREST, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) – In his first game back off injury, Marian University goalkeeper
Nathan Thiery made 11 saves, but it wasn't enough as seventh-ranked Dominican University handed the Sabres a 5-0 defeat in Northern Athletics Conference action at West Campus Field Saturday, Oct. 1.
In his previous outing, Thiery made a career-high 17 stops in a 1-0 loss to Aurora back on Sept. 21, and followed it up with 11 more on Saturday. The high-powered Dominican offense was a little too much to handle, though, as they scored three first half goals en route to a 5-0 triumph.
With the win, Dominican improves to 9-1 overall, 4-0 in the NAC, while the Sabres drop to 2-8-1 (2-3 NAC).
The Stars racked up 31 shots, 16 on goal, to the Sabres' six (none on goal). In seven starts, Thiery leads the league with 63 saves on the season, an average of 9.9 saves per game.
The Sabres face a difficult road test next week as they travel to Edgewood Wednesday, Oct. 4, and then Rockford Saturday, Oct. 8.
