FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's volleyball team put together a solid game on both sides of the net in dispatching the visiting MSOE Raiders in straight sets (25-15, 25-23, 25-20) in Northern Athletics Conference action at Sadoff Gymnasium this afternoon, Oct. 22.
Carlie Kinsey turned in the match's lone double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Elizabeth Zutz turned in 10 kills and a .444 hitting percentage as Marian as a team hit for .250. Zutz also added three blocks, two solo, for the Sabres.
Marian improves to 7-22 overall, 4-7 in the NAC, while MSOE falls to 9-19 (2-9 NAC).
The Sabres controlled the first set, hitting .351 as a team while holding MSOE to a .077-clip en route to a convincing 25-15 set win.
In the second set, the Sabre built up a 12-7 lead before watching MSOE tie things up at 16-apiece. A Kaitlin Jarvis kill followed by an
Erika Heberer ace, though, gave Marian the lead back. They wouldn't trail, but once in the entire set, cruising to a 25-23 win.
Seeking the straight sets sweep, Marian fell behind early after MSOE's Stephanie Hasler served the Raiders to six straight points for a 10-6 lead. However, an attacking error several points later by Hasler led to a tie game at 16-16. The Sabres took advantage, scoring three of the next four points to the lead, one they would not relinquish.
Zutz would end the match with her second solo block of the contest to give the Sabres a 25-20 match-clinching set win.
Marian will play one final time this season, hosting Maranatha at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25, inside Sadoff Gymnasium.
