ROCKFORD, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) – Junior midfielder
Everett Zank, who entered today with just one goal in 47 career appearances, scored twice for the Marian University men's soccer team as it defeated the host Rockford College Regents, 2-1, at SportsCore tonight, Oct. 8.
Zank hadn't scored since Sept. 6, 2009 in an 8-0 win over Finlandia, tripled his career total with two game-altering goals against the Regents. His initial goal gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead on an assist by
David Reinke in the 14th minute. It wouldn't last long, however, as Cody Imming tied the game in the 19th minute. Then in the 54th minute, an pass from
Jacob Dorsey led to another Zank goal to give Marian the lead for good.
MU improves to 4-8-1 overall, 4-3 in the NAC, while Rockford falls to 3-9 (0-7 NAC).
The Sabres created many opportunities as they outshot the Regents, 21-10, in the match, while holding a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. Marian goalkeeper
Nathan Thiery proved solid once again by making seven saves in the victory.
Marian will host Concordia Wisconsin this Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Smith Fields at 7 p.m.
