ROCKFORD, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's soccer team recorded what is believed to be a team-record 61 shots, putting 31 on goal en route to an 8-0 victory over host Rockford College in Northern Athletics Conference play this evening, Oct. 8.
Seven Sabres found the back of the net including freshman
Morgan Ansems, who scored her first two career goals in the win.
Leah Klink also scored her first career goal, while
Mollie Tennessen,
Taylor Hozeska,
Jade Koeune,
Shayni Paul and
Danielle Donnermeyer also scored for Marian.
MU improves to 8-6 overall, 6-2 in the NAC, while Rockford falls to 3-8 (0-8 NAC).
Ansems found the scoreboard early for the royal blue and white with a goal just 51 seconds into the first half. Tennessen followed with the second Sabre goal prior to the nine-minute mark. Hozeska, Klink and Donnermeyer would also score as Marian took a commanding 5-0 lead into halftime.
In a 10-minute span starting in the 76th minute, Koeune, Ansems and Paul would provide three more insurance goals for the Sabres.
Marian outshot Rockford, 61-1, in the contest with 33 of those shots coming in the second half. The Sabres also held the advantage in corner kick, 9-0.
MU will return to action next Saturday, Oct. 15, when it hosts Benedictine at Smith Fields. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m.
