LAKE FOREST, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) – Junior
Katie Lindsley netted her first goal of the season, but it wasn't enough for the Marian University women's hockey team to upset host Lake Forest College on the road as the Foresters controlled the game from start to finish to record the 6-1 win this afternoon, Nov. 12.
The Foresters built a 4-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of game action, capped with a short-handed goal by Stephanie Slinde, her third of the season. Lindsley added her first goal of the year, the only goal accounted for in the second period for either side before the Foresters pulled away in the third for the convincing win.
Lake Forest improves to 4-2-1 overall on the year and 3-2 in the NCHA. Meanwhile, Marian falls to 0-6 (0-5 NCHA).
Morgan Pope opened the scoring with a power play goal at the 8:29 mark of the first period. Then, in a matter of a minute and 26 seconds, the lead ballooned to 3-0 as Slinde added one of her two goals in the period followed by Laura Reckdenwald's second goal of the year shortly thereafter. Slinde finished the period with a short-handed score to make it 4-0 after one.
The Sabre defense stepped up in the second period, but the offense couldn't match the output of the Foresters as Lindsley's goal was the lone score of the game at the 6:49 mark.
Megan Sesing-Gomoll was credited with the assist.
In the third period, the Foresters added two more goals for good measure. Kim Herring tallied her seventh score of the season followed by Stephanie Quintin's first of the year to cap the scoring.
Lake Forest's Stacey Dierking recorded her second win of the year in goal, making nine saves in the winning effort.
Kaytlin Ruzicka stopped 31 shots for the Sabres.
Marian will host Concordia Wisconsin in a rematch of a 5-4 overtime win by the Falcons earlier this season. The game is slated for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16.
