FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision to visiting Concordia University Wisconsin in NCHA conference play this evening, Nov. 16.
In a near repeat of their previous meeting, which needed overtime to decide a 5-4 comeback win for Concordia Wisconsin, the Falcons made it a season sweep of the Sabres with tonight's victory. This, too, was exciting to the end as the Sabres sent an extra attacker into the CUW zone to try and tie the game with seconds left, but an empty net goal by Sammi Reiter put an end to any comeback bid.
The Falcons improve to 5-2 overall, 4-1 in NCHA play, while the Sabres fall to 0-7 (0-6 NCHA).
The Sabres received goals by
Devan Lesch and
Brittany Syms. Each was their first goal of the season. Lesch's score cut the deficit to 2-1 in the first period, scoring at the 12:57 mark. In her third game with the Sabres this season, Syms cracked the scoring column and made it a 3-2 game with just under four minutes remaining in the game.
Amanda Alexander made 27 saves for the Sabres in the loss, while Andea Mizanskey also made 27 saves in picking up the win.
Bailey Rasmussen got the Falcons on the board just 2:05 into the game, which set the tone in the first period. Bradi Jonasson followed with a goal at the 11:08 mark to lead to an eventual 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
Leading by the same score, Rasmussen added her second goal of the game and eventual game-winner for the Falcons at the 13:55 mark of the second period. Reiter added the final tally with the empty net.
The Sabres will host Robert Morris (Ill.) this Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Blueline Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac, Wis. Start time is slated for 4:30 p.m.
