Josh Baker made a season-high 40 saves and freshman
Bryce Wilson's game-tying goal in the third helped the Marian University men's hockey team scratch away a 2-2 draw against host Lawrence University in MCHA action this evening, Nov. 17.
The Sabres extended their unbeaten streak to five games thanks to several key stops from Baker and Wilson's third goal of the season at the 7:08 mark in the third period. Marian also keeps its unbeaten record intact in MCHA action as they move to 5-1-1 overall, 4-0-1 in conference play. The Vikings move to 3-0-2 overall, matching their conference record.
After a scoreless first period, the Sabres were the first to crack the scoring column in the second.
Matt Berger recorded his second goal of the season on assists by
Brendan Roberts and
Dakota Dubetz just 47 seconds into the frame. Just 20 seconds later, the Vikings' Sam Johnson scored his third goal of the year to tie the game.
Jameson Raymond made it three goals in the first 1:32 combined as he gave the Vikings a 2-1 lead on a power play score. That's how the game would stand until the 7:08 mark of the third period when Wilson tied the game on assists by
Robbie Bailey and
Kevin Darcy.
The final 12-plus minutes of regulation and five minutes of overtime were relatively quiet as both teams settled for the 2-2 draw.
Baker moves to 4-1-1 overall this season after making double-digit saves in each of the first three periods and another four in overtime. Lawrence goalie Peter Emery made 32 saves, including three in the extra session.
Both teams will face off once more in a 7 p.m. start tomorrow, Nov. 18, at the Blueline Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac.
