ST. PAUL, Minn. (SabreAthletics.com) – It was an even and clean contest until the very end when Hamline's Corinne Henning broke the scoreless tie and netted the game-winner at the 3:18 mark in overtime to defeat the Marian University women's hockey team, 1-0, to claim a non-conference series sweep, today, Dec. 10.
Shots were nearly even as the Pipers led, 34-31, and there were just six penalties called in a game that needed overtime to decide a winner. The Sabres' bid for their first victory over a Division III opponent this season fell just short as Henning took a pass from Jordan Verleye to end the game 1:42 shy of ending in a tie.
With the win, Hamline improves to 3-6-1 overall, while the Marian falls to 0-11 with the loss.
Marian goaltender
Katie Bassett made her first start of the year and stopped 33 of the Pipers' 34 shots in falling to 0-1 on the season.

The Sabres will take an extended holiday break before returning to action Jan. 7-8, taking on Augsburg in a two-game set at home. Game one on Jan. 7, will be played at the Waupun Ice Rink at 7 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. start Jan. 8, at Blueline Family Ice Center.
