(Fond du Lac, WI) - A four-point Sabre lead vanished quickly in the second half on Tuesday evening at Sadoff Gymnasium as the Sabres went nearly six minutes in the half without scoring. Marian led 37-33 with 11:48 to play in the second, but didn't score until the 5:52 mark and then trailed 45-40. The Sabres ended up falling 64-53.
The Sabres led 27-25 at the break as it was close throughout. Marian scored 13 points off 13 Edgewood turnovers in the half. There were five ties and six lead changes. Edgewood held the biggest lead of the half at seven points.
In the second, it was back-and-forth until the scoring drought. Marian went 0-for-7 from the field during the stretch and turned it over three times. The closest Marian got the rest of the way was 41-37.
Elizabeth Zutz (Valders, WI) led Marian with her eighth double-double of the year. She scored 15 points and recorded 10 rebounds.
Brooke Haen (Oakfield, WI) scored 14 off the bench, while
Alexis Becker (North Fond du Lac, WI) added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Haen is now just three points shy of 1,000 points for her career.
Alison Tobin led Edgewood with 12 points.
Edgewood shot 18-for-46 (39%) from the field, while Marian shot 18-for-60 (30%). The Eagles out-rebounded Marian 48-32. Marian was just 6-for-29 from deep.
Marian (12-10, 6-10 NAC) is back in action on Saturday, as they will host Lakeland College at 2:00 PM.
