Marian drops a pair at Concordia

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Mequon, WI) - The Sabres opened up their conference season on Wednesday with a pair of defeats at Concordia-Wisconsin. The Sabres dropped a 1-0 game in eight innings in game one and then fell victim to seven errors in a 7-1 game two loss. Marian is now 1-10 overall and 0-2 in the Northern Athletics Conference as they prepare for their home opener on Saturday against Maranatha Baptist Bible College.

In game one, the Falcons had more chances to score than the Sabres, but Cherise Waltz (South Byron, WI) kept them at bay. She scattered seven hits in her 7.1 innings pitched and didn't walk a batter. She struck out two in the game.

Marian had a great chance in the top of the sixth as they had the bases loaded with outs, but couldn't convert.

In the eighth, the Falcons leadoff hitter singled and advanced to second on an error on the play. After a groundout moved her to third, she came in to score on a single.

Concordia out-hit Marian 7-2 in the game.

In game two, the Sabres hurt themselves with the seven errors. The Falcons broke open a 3-0 lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Jenna Whitehead (Kimberly, WI) homered in the seventh for Marian's only run.

Concordia registered nine hits compared to Marian's three.

Waltz pitched 5.0 innings and gave up just two earned runs. She fanned three Falcon hitters.
