(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University won game one 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Smith Fields, but couldn't get the sweep against Dominican University as they fell 4-2 in the finale.
Cherise Waltz led Marian to a victory in game one with a solid pitching performance and in game two a late rally fell just short.
Marian scored twice in the second inning in the first game and that proved to be enough.
Niki LaPlant and
Kaitlin Jarvis drove in runs for Marian in the frame.
Waltz did the rest as she took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. She finished with four strikeouts and did not walk a batter in the complete-game victory.
The Stars got on the board in the seventh and had a chance for more, but stranded runners on second and third in the inning.
Both teams had four hits in the game.
In game two, Dominican had a 4-0 lead going into the fifth, but Marian answered with a pair of runs. Marian had a chance for more in the inning, but stranded a pair.
Marian had another great chance in the seventh as they loaded the bases, but couldn't convert.
Emily Boehnlein, Emilie Jansen and
Jenna Whitehead all had a pair of hits in the losing effort.
Marian is back in action again on Tuesday, as they will host Edgewood College.
