(River Forest, IL) - After losing game one 8-1 on Thursday afternoon, Marian rebounded nicely in the nightcap, defeating Concordia-Chicago 3-1 to earn the split. The games were originally supposed to be played in Fond du Lac, but were switched due to weather and field conditions. Marian is now 9-18 overall and 8-6 in the NAC.
In game one, CUC broke open a 1-0 game in the top of the fourth with five runs. Taylor Golden drove in three with a double. Marian scored in the bottom of the inning, as
Aubrey O'Brien hit her third home run of the season. That was all Marian would get however, as the Cougars tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
The Cougars out-hit Marian 14-3. O'Brien had two of Marian's three hits.
In the finale, Marian scored three in the top of the first and was able to hold on. The big hit in the inning came off the bat of
Brooke Haen as she delivered a three-RBI double to clear the bases.
Golden homered for the Cougars in the fourth, but that was all they would get against Marian ace
Cherise Waltz. She got the complete-game victory as she scattered six hits. She struck out four and did not issue a walk.
Haen led the offense with two hits.
