(Fond du Lac, WI) - Cherise Waltz picked up a pair of victories on Sunday for Marian and in the process helped Marian stay alive for the final spot in the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. The Sabres won game one 5-2 and finished with a 7-0 victory. Marian is now 13-24 overall, but more importantly, 12-12 in the NAC. 

Marian will await the outcome of the Concordia-Chicago vs. Edgewood games tomorrow to see if they will be headed to the postseason. They need the Cougars to lose one game to the Eagles to qualify.

Marian fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of game one, but scored four of their own in the bottom of the inning. Jenna Whitehead drove in a pair with a single and Emilie Jansen had a RBI-single in the inning. Marian also scored a run off an Inferno error. Sam Braun gave Marian an insurance run in the third as she drove in a run on a groundout.

Waltz set a career-high with 14 strikeouts in the game. She scattered eight hits and walked two.

Aubrey O'Brien led the offense, going 2-for-3.

In game two, Waltz gave up just two hits and struck out five in the victory.

Marian scored three times in the third and added four more in the fourth.

Nikki LaPlant led the Sabres with a pair of RBIs. Emily Boehnlein and Kelsey Hungerford also picked up RBIs.
