FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Two first half goals gave the Marian University men's soccer team a 2-1 lead before the MSOE Raiders responded with three unanswered scores, handing the Sabres a 4-2 loss in Northern Athletics Conference play at Smith Fields this evening, Sept. 27.
Marian's David Reinke and Brandon Zipperer helped the Sabres erase a 1-0 deficit and take a 2-1 lead in the 33rd minute of play. However, Mariano Suaso-Rodriguez found the net for the Raiders with less than four minutes to play in the second half to tie things up heading into halftime. In the second half, Patrick Gathof and Dan Hosko provided the go-ahead goal and insurance tally to propel the visitors to the win.
MSOE improves to 5-4-1, 3-0 in NAC play with the victory while Marian drops to 2-7-1 (2-2 NAC).
The Raiders outshot the Sabres 23-9 in the match with a match-high six shots going to Suaso-Rodriguez. Reinke added his team-leading fifth goal of the season on two shots while Zipperer chipped in his second score of the year on his only shot of the match. Everett Zank recorded a team-high three shots in the match for the Sabres.
Marian will hit the road for three straight beginning with Dominican University this Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
