MADISON, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's volleyball team dropped its first Northern Athletics Conference match of the season as the Edgewood College Eagles handed them a four-set defeat (25-19, 25-12, 21-25, 25-11) at the Edgedome this evening, Sept. 27.
The Sabres avoided a sweep by taking the third set in come-from-behind fashion, scoring the final eight points and eliminating a 15-9 deficit by taking the set 25-21. The Eagles displayed an offensive juggernaut as they tallied 55 kills for a hitting percentage of .211 while holding the Sabres to a mere .025 hitting percentage. Aileen Maier led the team with seven kills while Katie Remer tallied a team-high 22 assists and libero Ashley Zumbrock totaled 16 digs.
The Sabres fall to 5-13 on the season, 2-1 in the NAC with the loss, while the Eagles improve to 10-7 (3-1 NAC).
Edgewood College had two players record double-digit kills as Mallory Palmer led all hitters with 20 on 45 attempts, good for a .356 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, Jessica Martin tallied 12 kills. Lindsey Swansby managed a double-double with 47 assists and 13 digs as well.
The Sabres return home for match with NAC foe Benedictine this Friday, Sept. 30, at Sadoff Gymnasium. First serve will begin at 7 p.m.
