MADISON, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's soccer team was held in check as the host Edgewood College Eagles claimed a 2-0 shutout in Northern Athletics Conference action at Breese Stevens Field tonight, Sept. 28.
Edgewood cracked the scoreboard in the first half with a 34th minute penalty kick goal by Elaine Gerry, her 12th of the season to pull her into a tie for second with Alexa Torman for the league lead. The Eagles' Jenna Mineau then added a 65th minute insurance goal to seal the win for the hosts. Marian managed just three first half shots as scoring chances were hard to come by.
The Sabres drop to 5-5 on the season, 3-2 in the NAC while EC improves to 6-3-1 (3-1-1 NAC).
Edgewood challenged Marian goalkeeper
Caitlyn Rosenberger all night, firing 18 shots against the freshman. Rosenberger would turn away eight of those, while her counterpart, Kristi Frisch, needed just one save to preserve the shutout.
Mollie Tennessen had one of MU's three shots, including one on goal.
Jade Koeune and
Morgan Ansems tallied the others.
The Sabres are back in action this Saturday, Oct. 1, as they travel to Dominican University for a 3:30 p.m. start time in River Forest, Ill.
