Coach Boyle Interview

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Head Coach Mark Boyle became just the second active men's basketball coach in the Northern Athletics Conference to earn 300 career wins as Marian University knocked off Northland College in non-conference action, 75-67, this evening, Jan. 4.

Boyle joins James Lancaster of Aurora as the only two men's head coaches in the NAC to win as many games. Lancaster accomplished the feat earlier this season, back on Dec. 10.

The Sabres were efficient from the floor, converting on half of their attempts to go 27-for-54 from the field and 8-of-18 from three-point range. Junior Jeff Harris tallied his first double-double of the season, leading the Sabres with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Cody Veleke added 14 points, while Sam Koslowski notched 12 off the bench.

Marian improves to 3-9 with the win, while Northland falls to 1-9 with the loss.

The Sabres built a nine-point lead by halftime and used the momentum en route to their eight-point win. The Marian bench outscored Northland, 22-8, in the contest. Charles Ruffing hit two big three's in 17 minutes of play, while Richard Knar and Lazarus Gray also made key contributions.

Mark Keller filled the stat sheet with seven points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a block in the win, while Mike Keller fell one point shy of reaching double-figures.

The LumberJacks placed two players in double-figures with Adrian Flores leading all scorers with 24 points. Michael Mackey added 19 as the 'Jacks were held to just 40.6 percent shooting for the game.

Marian will look to make it two straight as it jumps back into NAC play with a road test at Aurora this Saturday, Jan. 7. Tip-off will follow the women's contest and is slated for 4:15 p.m.
