AURORA, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) – Sophomore guard Sarah Albert shot her way into the Marian University record books, making 10 of her 13 three-point attempts in posting a career-high 30 points in the women's basketball team's, 76-53, Northern Athletics Conference road victory over Aurora University inside Thornton Gymnasium this afternoon, January 7.
Albert drained seven three's in the first half to pace the Sabres to a, 39-28, 11-point lead before converting each of her three-point attempts in the second half. Amelia Mirsberger also reached double-figures for the Sabres, scoring 11 points off the bench. Aurora was led by Angela Smith's 15 points, while Megan Kohrt and JaQuitta Walker both added 13 apiece.
The Sabres improve to 9-5 overall, 5-4 in the NAC with the win. Meanwhile, Aurora falls to 2-11 (1-5 NAC).
Marian used a 17-0 run to start the game and never looked back as it led wire-to-wire en route to the win. The Sabres shot over 54 percent in the first half on 13-of-24 shooting. Meanwhile, Aurora managed just 8-of-26 from the floor for 30.8 percent.
The Sabre defense held the Spartans to just 30.6 percent (15-for-49) for the game and 3-of-13 from beyond the arc. Marian knocked down 14 three-pointers as a team and shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) for the game.
Alyssa Pyscher returned after missing the last two games and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds off the bench. The Marian benched outscored Aurora, 27-10, in the contest, while turning 19 Spartan turnovers into 19 points.
The Sabres will have a day off before returning to action in a non-conference road test at second-ranked University of Chicago. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9.
