Men's Soccer Stunned in Double-Overtime, 1-0

Box Score

LISLE, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's soccer team dropped a heart-breaker as host Benedictine University scored with just three seconds remaining in double-overtime of a Northern Athletics Conference match this evening, Oct. 13.

Edgar Reyes scored with just three seconds remaining in the second overtime and the Eagles picked up a meaningful league win as it leap-frogged them over the Sabres for eighth in the standings. Marian keeper Jameson Hoerter fell just shy of his second career shutout.

The Eagles improve to 3-11 overall, 3-5 in the NAC with the loss, while the Sabres fall to 2-8-4 (2-5-2 NAC) with the loss.

Both teams played an even match for the 100 minutes, but then the Benedictine offense came to life with six unanswered shots in the second overtime. Reyes' score proved the difference as Tony Mendoza earned the assist.

The Sabres have two league contests remaining and winning both now appears crucial. The first test facing the Blue and White will be a Senior Day match against Maranatha, Tuesday, Oct. 16, beginning at 7 p.m. at Smith Fields.
