FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The fourth-seeded Marian University women's soccer team fell at home, 1-0, to fifth-seeded MSOE in the first round of the Northern Athletics Conference tournament, this afternoon, Oct. 27.

A very late first half goal was the difference in the outcome as MSOE moves on to play top-seeded Aurora on Tuesday, while Marian's season ends. The two teams played an evenly-matched contest throughout, but MSOE was able to capitalize on its opportunity for the win.

MSOE improved to 11-8-1 with the win and will continue on in the NAC tournament, while Marian's season ends at 9-9-1 overall.

As time was winding down in the first half, MSOE cracked the scoring column when Natalie Gayner found the net off a rebound with eight seconds remaining. Marian's Caitlyn Rosenberger made the initial save off the corner kick by Kate Herrmann, but could not corral the rebound and the Raiders took a 1-0 lead at the break.

The Raiders led in shots, 16-11, for the match and held a 10-7 advantage in the opening half. The Sabres collected seven corner kick opportunities to MSOE's six.

Marian saw few chances in the second half, but on those that they did see, were unable to capitalize on. With under 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Leisa Conn served a corner kick into the box. Jenny Brandt, among others, were there to try and put it in the net, but MSOE keeper, Emma Lumpe, jumped on the ball before a Sabre was able to make a touch.

Lumpe made four saves in earning her eighth shutout of the season. Meanwhile, Rosenberger was able to stop eight shots for the Sabres.
