Women's Hockey Beats Lions, 5-1, for Third Straight Win

Box Score

HANCOCK, Mich. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's hockey team recorded another 5-1 victory over host Finlandia University and, in the process, set program records for most single season win, NCHA wins and longest win streak, this afternoon, Nov. 10.

Megan Sesing-Gomoll proved to be an insurmountable force once again as she drove the Sabre offense with two short-handed goals and showed she was too much for the Finlandia defense to handle. Marian outshot the Lions 46-16 in the game and broke open a 1-1 tie after two periods with a four-goal third en route to the win.

Marian improves to 3-2 overall, 2-0 in the NCHA with the win, while Finlandia falls to 0-4 (0-4 NCHA).

Finlandia took their first lead in the series when Elizaveta Monakhova found the net at the 12:11 mark in the first period. But then Rachel Mullendore evened the score just before the first intermission with an unassisted tally at the 16:44 mark.

After a scoreless second period, Amanda Waigand got on the board for the first time in the series with the eventual game-winner at the 7:25 mark on assists by Birttany Syms and Kristen Skubic.

In less than a minute, Sesing-Gomoll provided some daylight with back-to-back short-handed tallies at the 11:05 mark on an assist by Mullendore and then an unassisted score at the 11:56 mark.

With 6:47 left in the game, Waigand scored for the second time in the game on assists by Erin Dunphy and Syms.

Marian's Amanda Alexander made 15 saves between the pipes to earn her third straight victory. Her counterpart, Taylor Gustafson, made 41 saves in the loss after facing a total of 115 shots against a stifling Marian offense.

The Sabres will make their home debut next Saturday, Nov. 17, riding a ton of momentum. Marian Head Coach Jamie Kivi will face her former team in St. Norbert College in the first of a two-game NCHA conference series. The Sabres and Green Knights will drop the puck at 4 p.m.
