FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - Four unanswered goals for Hamline University gave way to a series sweep defeating Marian University, 4-1, this afternoon Saturday, Dec. 15 at Blue Line Family Ice Center.

Sabre Brittany Syms put Marian on board first scoring early in the first period, but four unanswered goals for the Pipers provided the victory in the fast paced and physical matchup.

Hamline improved to 3-7-2 overall with the win, while Marian dropped to 3-8-2 overall.

The Sabres came firing on all cylinders in the first period, getting off 11 shots in the period. At the 15:36 mark, Syms, assisted by Amanda Waigand, found the back of the net scoring her fourth goal of the season. Seven minutes later, the Pipers retaliated with a goal of their own to tie the game. Goal was scored by Jordan Verleye, assisted by Corinne Henning.

In the second period, a plethora of penalties on both ends, but Hamline was the team to take full advantage. Having the man advantage, Hamline's Chelsea Koehn scored late in the second period at the 2:41 mark to give Hamline the lead going into the third period. Marian was awarded two power play opportunities in the second period, but were unable to convert.

Again in the third period, the Pipers scored on a power play opportunity at the 15:49 mark after a Sophie Schieldt interference penalty. The Pipers tacked on another goal five minutes later at the 10:13 mark of the final period. After shooting the lights out of the puck in the first two periods, Marian was held to just three shots for the entire third.

Marian now has a long break until Wednesday, Jan. 16 as the host NCHA opponent, Wis. Stevens Point at Blue Line Family Ice Center. Action begins at 7:00 p.m.
