ADRIAN, Mich. (SabreAthletics.com) – Two first period goals were all Adrian College needed to knock off the Marian University women's hockey team as the Bulldogs rode a series sweep with a 4-0 NCHA win Sunday afternoon, Feb. 12.
A pair of power play goals came within 90 seconds of each other in the first period as Kelly Salis and Hanna McGowan found the back of the net against Marian goaltender
Amanda Alexander. Nina Laurie would add a goal in the second period and Sarah Connelly tacked one on in the third, proving too much for the Sabres to overcome.
Adrian goalie Brittany Zeches made eight saves en route to her second straight shutout and third of her career. The Bulldogs improved to 12-8-2 on the season, after their seventh consecutive win, and went to 10-6-2 in the NCHA. Meanwhile, Alexander made 29 saves as the Sabres dropped to 1-19-3 (1-15-2 NCHA).
The Bulldogs outshot the Sabres 33-8 in the contest and were 2-for-6 on the power play. Marian failed to convert any of their six chances.
The Sabres will wrap up the regular season next weekend as they take on St. Norbert College in a home-and-home series. Game one will take place in DePere on Friday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. Both teams will conclude the series Saturday in a 3 p.m. start in Fond du Lac.
