Marian Falls, Shots Don't In Road Loss to Edgewood

Box Score

MADISON, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – A difficult shooting night resulted in a loss for the Marian University women's basketball team as host Edgewood College led wire-to-wire to a 68-53 win in Northern Athletics Conference action this evening, Feb. 7.

The Sabres managed to go just 20-for-56 (35.7 percent) from the field in the contest, including 5-for-21 (23.8 percent) from long distance. Sophomore Sarah Albert was Marian's only scorer to reach double-figures as she recorded 12 points on 4-of-10 from the field and 1-of-5 from three. Alison Tobin led all scorers as she posted 16 points for the Eagles, followed by Dareon Henderson's 13 points and game-high nine rebounds.

Edgewood improves to 9-12 overall, 8-7 in NAC play and leap-frogs the Sabres into fourth place in the North Division standings with the win. Meanwhile, Marian falls to 12-10 (8-8 NAC).

Marian cut the deficit to nine points with five minutes left on a free throw by Alyssa Pyscher. It was the first time the Edgewood lead had been cut under 10 since the first half and it was also the last.

EC's Brittany Bylsma converted a jumper the next time down the floor and it put the Eagles up by 11. Every time the Sabres converted a basket that built any sort of momentum, Edgewood seemed to have an answer down the stretch.

The Eagles jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first half and never looked back, taking a 33-22 advantage into the lockerroom. The Eagles converted 14 points off 13 Marian turnovers in the first half and finished the game with 22 points off 18 MU miscues. The Sabres converted just 10 points on 19 Edgewood turnovers for the entire game.

Marian was out-rebounded 41-27 in the contest, a drastic contrast from the first meeting in Fond du Lac, when the Sabres dominated the glass 44-30. Marian also connected on 13 three's and held Edgewood to 22 percent from the field en route to a 70-41 win.

The Sabres will now look ahead to their final two NAC contests of the year with the exception of the NAC Challenge game Feb. 18. Marian will hit the road for a meeting with Lakeland this Saturday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. followed by a home date with Alverno Feb. 15.
