MILWAUKEE, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University softball team was upended by top-seeded Benedictine University on a cold and windy day two of the 2012 Northern Athletics Conference tournament this morning, May 4. The Sabres will now take on Dominican at 3 p.m., while the Eagles advance to day three to play the winner of No. 2 Aurora and No. 3 Concordia Wisconsin.

Brittany Adcox (22-3), the league's choice for Player and Pitcher of the Year, displayed all of her talents this morning. She went the distance to record her ninth shutout of the season, striking out nine and walking none while holding the Sabres to just three hits. Her counterpart, Marian starter Cherise Waltz (17-14), put together a stellar outing of her own, scattering seven hits while allowing three runs (1 earned).

Benedictine improves to 31-9 overall, while Marian falls to 21-19.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the first inning, scoring an unearned run on a throwing error. With runners at second and third and one out, Aubrey O'Brien had the BenU runner dead to rights at the plate, but her throw sailed high and allowed the run to score.

In the third inning, Adcox put the Eagles up 2-0 with her second home run of the season, connecting on a pitch at the shoulders and blasting it through the teeth of the wind blowing in from left field.

Benedictine added one more run for good measure in the fourth, aided by another Sabre fielding miscue.

Emilie Jansen recorded two of the three Sabre hits with a pair of singles. Molly Sippel collected the other hit.

Adcox and Sara Koch each finished 2-for-3 for the Eagles.
