Men's Hockey Records Shutout Over #14 MSOE

Box Score

MILWAUKEE (SabreAthletics.com) – In a rare non-conference meeting between two MCHA opponents, the Marian University men's hockey team recorded a 3-0 shutout over host and 14th-ranked MSOE to start the second half of the 2012-13 season at the Kern Center, this evening, Jan. 12.

Aaron Leonard put the Sabres on top in the second period, while Tyler Klein and Brian Berger added two insurance tallies for the win. Marian goaltender, Josh Baker, made 33 saves in registering his second shutout of the season and third of his career.

Marian improved to 7-7-1 overall with the win, while MSOE dropped to 9-5-1 with the loss.

After a scoreless first period, Leonard made it 1-0 Sabres with his fourth goal of the season at the 10:53 mark of the second period. It would remain a one goal game into the second intermission.

Just 47 second into the third period, Klein scored his team-leading ninth goal of the year. Berger was able to get one more past the freshman goalie Nick Kohn, a short-handed tally at the 15:31 mark. It was his fourth goal of the season.

The Sabres will resume conference play Friday-Saturday, Jan. 18-19, as they travel to Adrian, Mich. to take on the #7 Bulldogs in a two-game series on the road.
