(SabreAthletics.com) - Following Tuesday's overtime heartbreaker to UW-Whitewater, the men's soccer team packed their things and made way for Rockford, Illinois to take on the Regents Friday afternoon. It would be the senior leadership of Nate Peltonen and David Reinke that would carry the Sabres to victory.
After a scoreless first half that saw Marian put only two shots on target, they came out with a vengeance to open the second. A total of 16 shots would be taken by the Sabres, with nine of them going on target. Senior Nate Peltonen opened the scoring for Marian in the 50' with an assist to senior David Reinke and sophomore Danny Heerhold. 12 minutes later, Peltonen would net his second of the day on a header from five yards out. Sophomore Ramon Sutherland provided the dish for the second Marian goal. 38 seconds later, Reinke would tally for the 11th time this season on a cross from Peltonen.
The Regents failed to test sophomore keeper Jameson Hoerter, who was able to record the clean sheet without a save. The win gives Marian their first in NACC play, and their first overall win since September 18.
The Sabres will travel to Mequon, Wis. next Tuesday for their match against Concordia Wisconsin. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
