MADISON, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's volleyball team ran into a juggernaut in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference unbeaten, Edgewood College, which flexed its muscles in a, 25-13, 25-16, 25-16, straight sets victory inside the Edgedome, this evening, Oct. 15.

After two quick sets to begin the match, the Sabres vied to extend the night by keeping pace early on in the third set, but the Eagles proved too tough to overcome. Marian sophomore and Madison native, Casey Lamberty, led the Sabres with seven kills and 11 digs. Junior Kathryn Braunling and sophomore Anna Smit added six kills apiece.

The Sabres dropped to 7-17 overall, 2-5 in the NACC with the loss, while Edgewood improved to 20-6 (7-0 NACC) with the win.

The Eagles came out firing on all cylinders by taking the first set 25-13 on a .455 hitting percentage, putting down 17 kills opposed to just two errors. Meanwhile, despite the Sabres hitting a respectable .161 in that first set, the Eagles' 10-2 run midway through broke it open and prevented many quality offensive opportunities for the visitors.

The second and third sets were more of the same as Edgewood couldn't miss. It hit .286 as a team and totaled 46 kills on 112 total attacks compared to just 20 kills on 111 attacks for Marian.

Katie Wedvick led all attackers with 11 kills on 20 attacks, while Jessica Martin and Sarah Schuchhardt added nine kills apiece. Lindsey Swansby dished out 33 assists, while Rachel Tesch tallied 17 digs.

Freshman setter Jordan Menges added 19 assists to lead the Sabres.

Marian will be back in action Friday, Oct. 18, as it travels to Concordia Chicago for a 7 p.m. match-up before heading to Rockford for a 9 a.m. tilt Saturday, Oct. 19.
