The streak for Marian would come to an end, as the Sabres fell in overtime, 2-1.
Nicci Bermudes scored her 14th goal of the year in the 7' to put the Spartans out in front. Junior keeper Caitlyn Rosenberger would make note of this, stopping the next 13 saves. After only trailing 1-nil after 45 minutes, Marian came out with a renewed sense of energy, which paid off just nine minutes into the second half. Following a corner kick by junior Laura Maly, she found the ball back at her feet, and sent a lazer to the upper 90 of the far corner, leveling the score at one a piece.
The two squads would trade chances the rest of regulation, but Rosenberger would keep the Spartans off the board. With overtime looming, the Sabres regrouped and refocused in what they knew would be a battle to the end.
With overtime underrway, the Spartans controlled much of the tempo, totaling five shots and a corner kick. In the 99', Brittany Roydhouse's corner kick bounced into the penalty area near the six yard line where it hit the hand of Kelly Kulinski. With the game on the line, Nicole Wolfe stepped to the penalty spot and slotted home the winner past a diving Rosenberger.
The Sabres drop to 6-7-1 on the year and 4-3-1 in the conference. They will return to action on Tuesday in Milwaukee, facing Alverno. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
