Box Score ROCKFORD, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's volleyball team was disappointed in a four-set loss to host Rockford University in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play inside the Seaver Center, this morning, Oct. 19.
After a thrilling five-set triumph over Concordia University Chicago last night, it seemed as if the quick turnaround for a 9 a.m. contest may have caught up with the Sabres as they were upended by the Regents in surprising fashion. Rockford entered the match winless in NACC play and quickly took the first two sets on the way to its first league win.
The Regents improved to 3-19 overall, 1-8 in the NACC with the win, while the Sabres dropped to 8-18 (3-6 NACC) with the loss.
Rockford took two very close sets right off the bat, winning 25-23 and 25-22 to take a commanding 2-0 sets advantage.
Marian let Katelyn Hasken and Rachael Saunders do most of the damage offensively for Rockford as each recorded double-digit kills with Hasken leading the way with 22. Hasken added 17 digs for an impressive double-double.
After Marian came back with a 25-23 set win in the third set to cut the deficit in half, it looked as if the momentum was on their side and another come-from-behind victory might be in its sights, but it wasn't so.
The Sabres hit -.067 in the fourth set and managed just 12 points as Rockford answered with an emphatic final set to push it to its first conference win.
Sophomore Casey Lamberty turned in yet another double-double, her seventh of the year, with a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs. Morgan Dercks led the Sabres with 20 assists, while Katrina Jansen registered 26 digs.
The Sabres will be back in action this Wednesday, Oct. 23, as they play host to Concordia University Wisconsin (11-15, 5-4 NACC). First serve is set for 7 p.m.
