Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Behind 25 shots and solid play all around, the Marian University women's soccer team picked up its second straight victory with a 3-0 decision over visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play and the annual "Fight MS" game at Smith Field, this evening, Oct. 2.
The Sabres outshot the Warriors 25-2, including 10-0 in shots on goal in the dominating win. Freshman Mikaila Johnson (30'), junior Morgan Ansems (35') and freshman Erica Mora (65') tallied scores for Marian, which improved to 3-6 overall and evened its league mark to 2-2 with the win. Meanwhile, Wisconsin Lutheran dropped to 3-7-1 (1-1-1 NACC) with the loss.
The Sabres logged 10 shots before finally hitting pay dirt after Johnson put home a slotted ball by sophomore Alyson Fisher in the 30th minute. It was Johnson's team-leading fifth goal of the season and first score in her last four games.
Less than six minutes later, Ansems found the netting for her first goal of the season and ninth of her career. It came off a cross from junior Kylie McArthur before being touched through by McKaylee Hagstrom en route to a shot into the upper left corner of the goal.
The Sabres took a 2-0 lead and 15-1 shots advantage into halftime.
Erica Mora provided a final tally on a play that began with a corner kick. After an initial deflection, Johnson settled the ball and dropped it back for Mora, who blasted one from 20 yards out.
Despite not being challenged, junior Caitlyn Rosenberger and Aliece Kersher, who came off the bench to log 17 minutes of action, shared the shutout. It was Marian's second shutout of the year and brings their scoreless streak to 137 minutes dating back to the first half of their 3-2 win over Dominican last Saturday, Sept. 28.
Marian will try to extend that streak even further, while looking to add its third win in a row, when traveling to Concordia Chicago for a league match-up this Saturday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
