Box Score LISLE, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) - After falling behind midway through the first half, the Sabres would power back in the second, scoring two unanswered goals to leave the state to the south victorious. With the victory, the Sabres secured their place in the upcoming NACC Tournament.
Heading into their second-to-last conference game, Marian was teetering on the edge for their playoff seeding. A strong second half to their season had put the team in a position to continue their season into the playoffs and the NACC Tournament.
The Eagles of Benedictine entered Saturday with the spoiler role in mind, as they were eliminated from the postseason. Nikki Jhanji converted a penalty kick in the 24' to give Benedictine the lead. This would be the lone shot on goal that they would register in the opening 45.
Struggling to find the equalizer, junior Laura Maly bent in her corner kick in the 66' to level the playing ground. The draw would stand for a mere 2:32 before junior Morgan Ansems netted the game-winner on an assist from fellow classmate Leisa Conn. Ansems took the cross from Conn at the top of the box and blasted it past the Eagle goalkeeper Abby Gary.
With the victory, the Sabres move to 6-3-1 in conference play and have secured a spot in the upcoming NACC Tournament. With conference games still remaining, it has yet to be decided whether or not Marian will host in the first round.
Once this is decided, SabreAthletics.com will publish official start times.
