Box Score Game Notes
Earning Their Place: With the team winning both of their games last week, they have clinched a berth into the NACC Tournament. In the midweek game against Alverno, juniors Maisie Floyd and Leisa Conn combined for two goals, defeating the Inferno to move to 5-3-1 in conference play. On Saturday, the squad played under the lights at Benedictine, coming from behind to depart victorious, 2-1.
"Conn-vincing" Performance: Junior Leisa Conn turned in a remarkable week on the offensive side of the pitch. The Menasha, Wis. native, Conn assisted on the game-winner against Alverno and tallied the insurance goal. Then, on Saturday, she fed teammate Morgan Ansems at the top of the box for the game-winner against Benedictine. Conn now has four goals and three assists on the year, and may just be peaking offensive at the exact right time.
First Round TBD: While the Sabres have guaranteed a spot in this year's NACC Tournament, it will come down to the last day of the conference season to determine final seeding. Currently, the Sabres are slotted in the fifth spot, behind MSOE. The Raiders came to Fond du Lac in September and scored three unanswered goals in the second half to defeat the Sabres 3-2. If the Sabres defeat Lakeland and other results in the conference fall in the favor of Marian, they could very well be hosting a first-round match in the NACC Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 3.
Tarnishing the Titans: Marian will play their final non-conference match Monday evening as they host UW-Oshkosh. The Titans enter the final week of the regular season with a 10-7-1 overall record, but have made the most of their opportunities in conference play, standing at 6-2. Amanda Baalke has paced the offense, leading the team in both goals (5) and assists (6). In net, Katie Berkopec has recorded seven shutouts.
Trolling for Muskies: Lakeland enters the final day of the 2013 season with a disheartening 5-12-1 record. Of their five wins, only two have come in conference play over Rockford and Wis. Lutheran. Junior Krystina Cook leads the Muskies with six goals, followed closely by freshman Alexa Piskule who has five goals and two assists. With their hopes of a postseason berth erased, Lakeland can still play the spoiler role against the Sabres on Monday.
Senior Day: The Marian University Athletic Department would like to recognize the hard work and commitment that Jenny Brandt and Shayni Paul have made to the women's soccer program over the past four years. Brandt, a Nursing major, has played in 51 games in her career, totaling two goals and one assist. Paul, a Sport & Recreation Management major and an Athletic Coaching minor, has played in 50 games in her career, totaling six goals and seven assists. Congratulations to both of these student-athletes on their careers at Marian.
