Box Score WATERTOWN, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Despite double-doubles from Casey Lamberty and Morgan Dercks, it wasn't enough to dispatch host Maranatha Baptist in the regular season and non-conference finale as the Marian University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-20, 25-21, 25-20) on the road, this evening, Oct. 29.
Lamberty led the team with 11 kills and 16 digs, while Dercks totaled 18 assists and 10 digs. Maranatha outhit the Sabres .200 to .134 in the match and was led by Laci Peterson's 13 kills and 14 digs. The Crusaders did a lot of damage up front with their middle blockers, registering 12 blocks to just three for the Sabres.
Maranatha, a former league member, improved to 21-8 overall with the win, while Marian dropped to 9-20 with the loss.
The Sabres, who recorded their highest hitting percentage of the season in a win over MSOE last time out, struggled to keep pace with the Crusaders in that regard. Marian hit below .100 in the first set as Maranatha went on to the 25-20 set win.
The Sabres would progress in their percentage in the final two sets, but fell short of equaling the rate of the Crusaders.
Marian will regroup before heading to Madison to take on top-seeded Edgewood College in the first round of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference tournament, which is set to begin Tuesday, Nov. 5. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
