Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - Still searching for their first victory in conference play, the Sabres traveled to the Windy City to take on Concordia Chicago Friday afternoon. Despite their first half lead, the Cougars notched their first conference win, scoring in the 88' to steal the win, 3-2.
Senior Michael Ekstrom opened the scoring in the first half, capitalizing on a scoring chance set up by the Peltonen brothers, Nate and Zach. Concordia Chicago fired back less than three minutes later on a free kick goal from just outside the 18 by Brendan Mullane. The Sabres would jump back out in front when senior Nate Peltonen gathered his third point of the half, scoring in the 18'.
After putting six of their 14 shots on frame, and walking into the locker room with a 2-1 lead, all signs pointed to a Sabre victory.
In the 63', Concordia Chicago equalized on a Marian Own Goal, drawing the teams even at two. In the second half, the Cougars held the shots on goal advantage, 7-3.
Earning a free kick in the 88', Dylan Pavlisin netted the winner from out near midfield.
The Sabres fall to 3-6-1 overall and 0-5 in the NACC. Marian will host UW-Whitewater next Tuesday at Smith Field in non-conference play. The No. 19 Warhawks, enter at 8-2, but have dropped their last two matches to Carthage (0-1), and North Park (0-3).
