(SabreAthletics.com) - Following a grueling battle on Friday night in Fond du Lac, the Sabres completed the home-and-home series with the top-ranked Green Knights of St. Norbert at the Cornerstone Community Center. For the second consecutive night, it would be Marian who would strike first, but again, St. Norbert powered their way back to win, 5-2.
For the third straight game, senior Tyler Klein jumped on the express train to goal town, scoring at 10:47 of the first period. Sophomore Ben Morgan earned his first points of the season with the assist.
With the Sabres on the powerplay in the second period, senior Ashton Reinboldt unraveled his former team, scoring his first of the year on assists from junior Thomas Nosella and senior Tanner Burton. St. Norbert would cut the lead in half at 15:49 of the second period on a powerplay goal from Cullen Bradshaw, his first of the year.
Trailing in the third, the Green Knights quickly erased the Sabre lead, scoring at 4:38 on the powerplay. Joe Perry earned the tally for St. Norbert with the helpers going to Mason Baptista and Marian Fiala.
St. Norbert would push across three more goals in the final frame to remain perfect in the young season and down Marian for the second straight night.
Senior Josh Baker turned away 31 saves in the loss and moves to 0-3 on the year.
The Sabres drop their third straight on the year and will play a home-and-home series next weekend with Lawrence University for the "Battle of 41". The Vikings went winless this weekend, falling to Concordia Wis. in NCHA play.
