Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. (SabreAthletics.com) - Following last night's heartbreaking loss to Hamline, Marian hit the ice on Saturday with the hopes to turning the tides and head home with a series split. Four unanswered goals by Hamline would put a halt to those plans, as Marian fell 4-1.
Saturday night looked promising for Marian as junior Kelly Leslie scored at 11:01 of the first period to give the Sabres the lead. Fellow juniors Lauren Zachwieja and Kristin Skubic collected the helpers on Leslie's goal. The lone lead of the night for Marian would disappear four minutes later, as Hamline scored on the powerplay at 15:38. Jordan Verleye, who scored the game-winner on Friday, was responsible for the powerplay tally.
Jenny Magill would give Hamline the only lead of the night that they would need, scoring at 18:56 of the first period.
The Pipers would score once in the second and once in the third to seal the 4-1 victory and the weekend sweep of the Sabres.
Marian will be on the road Tuesday night, as they'll face No. 7 UW-Stevens Point. The Pointers are 6-1-1 overall, suffering their first loss of the season to UW-Superior in their last game. Puckdrop is set for 7 p.m.
