Box Score STEVENS POINT, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - It can be a daunting task to go up against a top-five team, but the Sabres, who did just that, battled tough against UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday, Dec. 3, before falling 3-1.
Despite being outshot 39-12 on the night, the Sabres battled for a full 60 minutes and managed to get on the board in the third period courtesy of junior Amanda Waigand's seventh goal of the season. Sophomore Nina Laurie and freshman Rian Lennon added helpers on the goal.
In between the pipes, the Pointers kept junior Amanda Alexander busy, firing 39 shots on frame. The Sault Ste. Marie native was able to turn away 92 percent of the shots, but allowed three unanswered to give Stevens Point a 3-0 lead entering the third period.
The Sabres will have the weekend off before hosting UW-Superior next weekend. The Yellowjackets are the second of three consecutive opponents for Marian that is currently ranked in the national polls.
