Sesing-Gomoll's Two Goals Not Enough

Box Score

DULUTH, Minn. (SabreAthletics.com) - Two goals in the third period by Megan Sesing-Gomoll was not enough as the Marian University women's hockey team lost a 7-2 decision while visiting St. Scholastica in Mars Lakeview Arena, this evening, Feb. 15.

Senior, Sesing-Gomoll netted her ninth and tenth goals on the season, but her and the Sabres were unable to keep up with the Saints high-powered offense.

St. Scholastica improved to 11-9-4 overall and 8-8-3 in NCHA play with the win, while Marian dropped to 3-19-2 (2-15-2 NCHA) with the loss.

The first period saw a draw between the two teams as both goalies stopped every shot they faced. Sabre goalie, Ali Glazer, made her eighth start of the season, and looked for her first victory on the year. The Saints, however, would make Glazer wait another day as they tested her early and often. Throughout the three periods, the Saints practically doubled their shots on goal from period to period, and ended the evening with 50 and Glazer saving 43.

At the 16:24 mark of the second period, St. Scholastica got on board first with a Gina Dodge goal, assisted by Nina Waldacher and Courtney Esse. St. Scholastica netted another goal at the 6:09 mark after Kiley O'Connell was called for checking, giving St. Scholastica the power-play opportunity.

Sesing-Gomoll broke the shutout and scored a power-play goal at the 17:29 mark, assisted by Brittany Syms, to cut the lead to one. In less than a minute after the Sabre goal, the Saints took a two goal lead once again as Monika Waldacher found the back of the net at the 16:52 mark.

After the Saints and Sabres exchanged goals, with the Saints up 4-2, the Saints scored their next three goals within three minutes of each other, and put the game out of reach.

Marian looks to end the season on a high note as they take on St. Scholastica for game two tomorrow, Feb. 16, in Mars Lakeview Arena. Puck is set to drop at 2:00 p.m.
