Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - In the last home series of the season, the Marian University women's hockey team dropped game one to Adrian College, 4-0, this evening, Feb. 8 at Blueline Ice Center.
Ali Glazer contested 51 shots from Adrian and saved 47. The 47 saves, however, was not enough to pull off a victory as her teammates were unable to score. Adrian jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first period, and continued to dominate the Sabres offensively, but adding two more goals in the next two periods.
Adrian improved to 18-5-1 overall and 12-5-1 in NCHA play with the win, and Marian dropped to 3-17-2 (2-15-2 NCHA) with the loss.
Danielle Smith, assisted by Devyn Fitzhenry, put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0 in the first period at the 12:32 mark. Six minutes later, the Bulldogs added another goal by Courtney Miller, assisted by Michelle Jones. The Sabres accounted for five shots for the entire period, compared to the Bulldog's 14.
In the second period, Marian nearly held Adrian without a goal, but Smith netted her second goal of the evening at the 2:39 mark. Marian had their offensive chances with an Adrian penalty at the 12:25 minute mark, giving them the man advantage, but were unable to convert. Bulldog goalie, Brittany Zeches, faced three consecutive shots during the power-play, but the puck never found the back of the net.
In the final period of play, both Marian and Adrian continued to play hard, and both sides played very physical. The period saw eight infractions, three from Marian and five from Adrian. At one point, Marian had a five-on-three advantage, but were unable to score.
Marian finishes the series with Adrian tomorrow, Feb. 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Blueline Ice Center. Seniors Katie Lindsely, Kiley O'Connell, Rachel Mullendore, Megan Sesing-Gomoll and Devan Lesch will be honored as they skate at home for the last time.
