Weekly Notes: Women's Soccer Prepares for Whitewater

Box Score

Weekly Notes

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - Wednesday night will see UW-Whitewater travel to Fond du Lac to take on Marian in a non-conference bout. The Warhawks own the all-time series, winning in each of the last five meetings. Carly Pottle and Natalie Lechner are setting the pace for Head Coach Ryan Quamme's squad with three goals a piece. The lone blemish on the Warhawks record came in their season opener, drawing even at two against St. Benedict, who is now ranked in the Top 25.

Fresh Feet: The 2012 season saw a predominant offensive output from sophomores Laura Maly and Lesia Conn, who tallied nine and seven goals, respectively, for the Sabres. This year, it has been freshman Mikaila Johnson who has jumped out in front, tallying a goal in each of her first three games.

"We were excited about Mikaila's potential during the recruiting process and we knew that she could be an immediate impact player. She really has a knack for finishing in the scoring area."

A Look Ahead: Following Wednesday's match against UW-Whitewater, the Sabres will have a seven day rest before a stretch of three games in a week. Wednesday, September 18, Marian will face off against UW-Stevens Point, a squad that hasn't gotten off to a start that they'd like. Even though the Pointers are winless in their first four matches, all three of their losses have come by one goal.

The Sabres will begin NACC play on September 21, when they host the MSOE. The Raiders currently stand at 1-3 overall, with a loss to then-10th ranked Loras at the Raider Invitational.

Edgewood will be the third and final match of the seven-day stretch for Marian, who currently stand at 1-2. The Eagles will be without standout forward Elaine Gerry. She led Edgewood with 25 goals and eight assists in 2012.
