Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - The frustrations and struggles continued for the Marian Sabres on Saturday, Sept. 14, as their losing streak increased to four with losses to Maranatha Baptist and Carroll University, both by scores of 3-0.
The Triangular this weekend pitted former Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference foe Maranatha Baptist against the Sabres. With the Crusaders winning in their 2012 meeting, three games to two, they came into Saturday's contest with a 7-1 mark. Their lone blemish came at the hands of Edgewood College, which they fell to in three sets.
Sophomore outside hitter Anna Smit once again paved the way for the Sabres, totaling 11 kills over the three games. Sophomore Katrina Jensen led the team in assists with 25. When the dust settled, it was the Crusaders, who had a kill percentage of .290, who came out on top over the Sabres, 25-16, 25-15, 25-20.
The team's second match of the day came against Midwest Conference opponent Carroll University. The Pioneers, who entered with a 6-5 overall record. Once again, it was Smit who led the Marian attack with 13 kills, followed by sophomore Casey Lamberty who put away eight. Jensen was joined by freshman Jordan Menges on the set duties, with Menges totaling 12 and Jensen collecting 11.
In the end, the Pioneers would prove to be too much for the Sabres, winning in three straight sets, 25-19, 25-14, and 25-22.
Marian will look to get back on track this Wednesday when they travel to Lawrence for a non-conference game with the Vikings.
