Marian Falls Short on the Road

MILWAUKEE (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's volleyball team evened the match after two sets, but host Wisconsin Lutheran College proved too much to overcome as it went on to win in four sets (25-18, 19-25, 25-20, 25-15) inside the Recreation Complex, this evening, Sept. 24.

The Sabres battled back after dropping the first set, but was unable to complete the comeback as the Warriors cruised to the four-set victory. Casey Lamberty led Marian with nine kills and 11 digs in the loss.

Wisconsin Lutheran improved to 4-14 overall, 2-1 in the NACC with the win, while Marian dropped to 5-9 (0-2 NACC) with the loss.

Hitting is ever-important in volleyball and the team who that battle was the team who won the match. The Warriors posted a .222 hitting percentage in the match, including percentages of .282 and .364 in the third and fourth sets, respectively. In Marian's lone set victory, it recorded a .324 hitting percentage, totaling 14 kills on 34 total attacks.

Errors plagued the Sabres in the other three sets, recording a negative hitting percentage in the first and fourth sets.

WLC was led with three players in double-digit kills, including Erin Greenfield and Kelli Johnson, who each recorded a match-high 15 kills. Kayla Ridgeman tallied 19 digs, while Alexis Hafemeister dished out 46 assists.

Marian will head to Wisconsin Dells to take part in the Iowa Conference-NACC Challenge where it will face Buena Vista, Luther, Simpson and Central in a two-day neutral-site event. The Sabres will compete in three matches on Friday, beginning with a noon start against Buena Vista.
