Sabres Dominate Regents with 7-0 Win

Box Score

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Alonso Fragoso led an offensive onslaught for the Marian University men's soccer team, scoring twice in a 7-0 win over Rockford University, at Smith Field, this afternoon, Oct. 11.

The Sabres (5-8, 2-4 NACC) wasted little time with four goals in the first half, including their first two within 28 seconds of each other when Sam Kusik and Fragoso tallied two quick strikes in the 24'. Four Sabres registered their first goals of the season and Marian outshot Rockford (1-12-1, 0-6-0 NACC), 25-7, including 16-1 in shots on goal.

Kusik took a Brandon Chavez pass with 23:15 gone in the first half and deposited it into the left upper 90 to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead. Only 28 seconds later, Fragoso scored his first of the game on an assist from Javier Miranda.

Still without a shot on goal at this point, the Regents struggled to find an answer. Marian kept pouring it on. In the 34', Danny Heerhold finally found the scoring column with his first goal of the year. The junior tri-captain has been instrumental this year in finding others opportunities to score and, today, he was able to get that elusive goal.

Emmanuel Zepeda scored his second goal in the last three games in the 38' on a Heerhold assist and the Sabres took a 4-0 lead into the locker room.

In the 56', Fragoso converted a penalty kick following a Rockford handball in the box to make it 5-0.

The sixth goal of the contest came off the foot of Cristian Rodriguez, who Heerhold found on the backside for an open goal.

In the 86', Marian tacked on the extra point when Fragoso's corner kick was neatly placed to the head of Hansen Olson, who scored his first career goal with a header inside the right post.

Jameson Hoerter made a save on the lone shot he saw and registered his fourth career shutout in the win.

The Sabres will have short rest before taking on Concordia Wisconsin this Tuesday, Oct. 14. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Smith Field.
