Sabres Fall to Spartans in Three Sets

Box Score

AURORA, Ill. (Sabreathletics.com) - The Marian University women's volleyball team was upended by host Aurora University, today, Oct. 11, in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match inside Thornton Gymnasium.

Less than 24 hours after an uplifting win over Benedictine, the Sabres (7-15, 3-3 NACC) fell to the third-place Spartans (19-7, 5-1 NACC), who cruised in three sets. Aurora turned in a .382 kill percentage while putting two in double figures as Brooke Pylant and Peyton McKenzie led the way with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

After a disappointing first set that saw the Spartans come away with a 25-16 win, the Sabres struggled to find any momentum. Marian tallied just 11 points in the second set and 15 in the third.

Elizabeth Zuelke finished with a team-high seven kills, but were unable to compete with Aurora's tough offensive attack. Amber Baker dished out 16 assists, while Michelle Koster totaled eight digs.

Marian looks to rebound against Edgewood on Tuesday Oct. 14. Start time is set for 7 p.m. inside Sadoff Gymnsium.
