Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Three first-half goals, including two quick strikes in the first eight minutes propelled visiting Concordia University Wisconsin past Marian University in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference men's soccer action tonight, Oct. 15, at Smith Field.
The Sabres fell behind early as the Falcons gained some early scoring opportunities and then capitalized with a pair of goals by Fond du Lac native Jordan Moehn. CUW would add a third tally in the 30' when Diego Campos converted a penalty kick following a trip in the box.
The Falcons (5-9-1, 3-3 NACC) edged the Sabres (5-9, 2-5 NACC) in shots, 15-14, with an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Marian senior goalkeeper Bryce Woldt made five saves in net for the Sabres, while his counterpart Eric Copper stopped all four shots on target to pick up the shutout.
CUW controlled possession from the start and just shy of the 6' mark, Moehn made it 1-0 with a header off a perfectly placed cross from Cobi Ortega, who registered the assist.
Moehn struck again at the 7:33 mark with his sixth goal of the year, finding empty at the top of the 18-yard box and slotting it past Woldt inside the right post to make it 2-0.
A trip in the box by a Marian defender led to a converted penalty kick by Campos in the 30' and that's all the Falcons would need to secure the victory and keep their conference tournament hopes alive.
The Sabres will travel to Illinois this Saturday, Oct. 18, to face fourth-place Aurora in a NACC battle at 3 p.m.
