Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) -- The Marian University women's soccer team scored four second-half goals to break a scoreless tie at halftime and beat visiting Concordia University Chicago, 4-0, in a very cold and wet Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Smith Field, this afternoon, Oct. 4.
For the second straight game, the Sabres (5-6, 3-2 NACC) turned in a 4-0 shutout. All four goals came in the second half today, as Brittany Syms got Marian on the board in the 50' followed by three more goals in a span of less than five minutes. The Sabres outshot the Cougars (6-5, 1-4 NACC) 21-12, including a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal.
Syms blasted one top shelf after being denied twice previously to put the Sabres on top 1-0 less than five minutes into the second half. It was her eighth goal of the season and fourth in the last two games.
Mikaila Johnson made it a two-goal game when Laura Maly delivered a beautiful pass in the box that Johnson headed past a diving Callie Hasselbring in the 64'.
Just 1:23 later, Maly then got into the act with her fifth goal of the season on a nice drop pass from by Beth Merten to give Marian a 3-0 advantage.
With four points, the senior Maly extended her consecutive games with a point streak to five.
In the 69', Kayla Bernardi added her third goal of the season for good measure.
Marian goalkeeper Alysha Kallas recorded her second career shutout and second in as many games with seven saves on the afternoon.
The Sabres will be back in action Wednesday, Oct. 8, when they head up to DePere to take on St. Norbert in a non-conference match-up. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
