Stars Outshine Sabres in Three

Box Score

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's volleyball team ran into a juggernaut in host Dominican University as the Stars came away with a convincing three-set triumph (25-7, 25-12, 25-21) inside the Igini Sports Forum, Wednesday evening, Oct. 8.

It wasn't the Sabres' (6-14, 2-2 NACC) night as it hit in negative figures offensively and struggled mightily in the first two sets. The Stars (14-8, 4-0 NACC), meanwhile, showed great success on the offensive side, hitting over .400 in the first set and .269 for the match on the way to remaining unbeaten in conference play.

Marian managed just seven points in the first set and 12 in the second before showing some fire down the stretch. The Sabres had an opportunity to force a fourth set as they pushed the Stars to the wire in set #3. However, Dominican was determined to end the match in straight sets and did so with a strong final push to win 25-21.

Dominican's Carri Chambers led all hitters with 11 kills, while Christina Wilson added 26 assists. Emily Drier led Marian with five kills on a slow night for the offense, while Amber Baker added 10 assists. Katrina Jansen returned from injury to give Marian a boost defensive with a match-high 20 digs, but it wasn't enough to offset the attacking fury of Dominican.

Marian will be back in action this weekend with back-to-back NACC match-ups on the road, taking on Benedictine Friday night, Oct. 10, followed by a Saturday morning duel with Aurora.
